Claire Carroll

Claire is a PhD student working with Cambridge Digital Humanities in the Faculty of English. Her research focuses on the aesthetics of interactive fiction (IF) and how they might connect to broader digital behaviours. At Cambridge, she co-organizes the Cultural Politics of Code, a critical code studies reading group and works on digital theatre hackathons. She is currently co-editing a special issue of AI & Society on critical code studies.

Claire is the recipient of the Judith E Wilson Studentship affiliated with Pembroke College and was a 2023-2024 CDH Methods Fellow. She holds a B.A. from Yale University in English and Computer Science and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing at the University of St Andrews. Claire is from New York (state) and likes to cook (pasta).

As the Advocacy & Engagement Fellow, Claire will work to develop the Advocacy strand of the Association’s activities, as part of the implementation of its three-year roadmap, to ensure we are advocating for digital humanities most effectively by determining how our field matches with the landscape of institutional and policy drivers.
