Welcome to New Members of the Association Collective
Following an open call earlier this year, the UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Association is delighted to welcome Vicky Garnett (Trinity College Dublin), Graeme Kemp (University of St Andrews), Valentina Vavassori (British Library) and Sharon Webb (University of Sussex) to our governing collective. Our four new members bring with them a variety of experience and expertise.
Vicky Garnett is a Research Fellow in the Trinity Centre for Digital Humanities at Trinity College Dublin, and is the Training and Education Officer for DARIAH-EU. Her background is in Sociolinguistics and Dialectology, and her current research interests are in training practices around research ethics in the Humanities, and ethics issues raised as a result of working in traumatic research areas. Graeme Kemp is the Head of Library Collections at the University of St Andrews, where he leads strategic collection management, metadata, and digital discovery initiatives. Previously, he served as Senior Manager for Discovery and Systems at the University of Glasgow, following an academic career as a historian specialising in digital approaches to early printed books. Valentina Vavassori is a Digital Curator for Automatic Text Recognition (OCR/HTR) at the British Library. She is particularly interested in developing workflows for text, speech and music recognition, using ATR for enhancing provenance research, and collaborating with communities to create models for less represented languages. Sharon Webb is an Associate Professor in Digital Humanities in the History Department at the University of Sussex and a Director of the Sussex Digital Humanities Lab. She is a historian specialising in Irish associational culture and nationalism of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, as well as a leading digital humanities practitioner with extensive experience in developing critical approaches to digital history and archival studies. We look forward to working with Vicky, Graeme, Valentina and Sharon on our activities over the next three years. We would also like to thank everyone who expressed an interest in joining the collective, as well as our members, Arianna Ciula, Lorna Hughes and Naomi Wells, who stood down at the end of August.
